Ruth Sieurin, WWI Army Nurse Corps Veteran

I went in pursuit of an answer as to why Ruth Sieurin was listed as a World War I veteran in the records of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Simple answer is that she was a nurse. I found an informative listing on the Arlington National Cemetery Website, under an entry for her husband, Willard Stewart Paul, a US Army Lieutenant General (http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/wspaul.htm : 21 November 2009).

The webmaster Michael Robert Patterson does not cite any sources (except for the gravestone photos), but he seems to have given careful consideration to ascertaining his facts. Willard S. Paul married Ruth M. Sieurin 14 April 1919. Ruth passed away 4 February 1953, and Willard married 2nd Luella Musselman. Willard passed away 21 March 1966. Luella passed away in 1978. Though she is not shown on the gravestone, Patterson says that Luella is also buried there.

Hi Polly!

Stumbled upon this researching one of my maternal great-grandmothers, who happens to be Ruth Sieurin- and wanted to say hello!

Thought you might want to know: After my grandfather Richard Irving Paul passed away in 2008, he was buried with his parents at Arlington; Luella Musselman Paul is not buried there. In order to get grandpa buried with his parents, we had to prove that she was buried elsewhere. I believe she was buried up north, near her family. (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=50923777)

I'm trying to learn more about Ruth's life and her work as a WWI Army Nurse (I know she was decorated with something. I can't imagine being a nurse in that war at all, period).

Love to talk more if you're interested. You can email me at sparkeranne at gmail.

I saw these posts thanks to my cousin from my mother's side, Magnus. I am also a Sieurin. I have a picture of a family tree and I see Ruth on it! My tree starts with Magnus Sieurijn 1725-1772 who married Ulrika Lundblad. They had a child Ivar Vilhelm who had 2 sons Ivar Emaunel and Pehr. I am from Ivar Emaunel's side and Ruth is the granddaughter of Pehr. If you email me I will try to get a copy of the tree and mail it to you!

Magnus, yes, Ruth's parents were from Sweden. Ruth's father was George Sieurin, born about 1859. He came over here in the 1880s. He gives his parents names as Per and Ida. I can keep looking if you need more info.
